– According to a report by Click Orlando reports that officials in Orange County have approved $125,000 in funding to help bring WWE Summerslam and Survivor Series to Orlando, Florida. Commissioners voted during a meeting last Tuesday (Dec. 3) to use tourist development tax dollars to help secure bids for the upcoming events.

Ultimately, the board approved a bid fee of $75,000 for Summerslam in August for the years 2020, 2021, or 2022. The event would have an estimated economic impact of $6 million. Then, a bid fee of $50,000 was approved for Survivor Series in November for the years 2020, 2021, or 2022. The event would have an estimated economic impact of $4 million.

Orlando previously hosted WrestleMania 33 in 2017. An independent study commissioned by the WWE determined that the week’s worth of events brought a total of $181.5 million of economic impact to the city.

Also, Orlando is home to the WWE Performance Center. It’s close by to Winter Park, which is home to Full Sail Live, where NXT currently holds its weekly live TV show on the USA Network.

Io Shirai and Poppy Discuss the ‘Scary Mask’ Entrance Song, Getting to Perform the Song Live in NXT

Io Shirai and Poppy Discuss the ‘Scary Mask’ Entrance Song, Getting to Perform the Song Live in NXT

Revolver Magazine recently interviewed NXT Superstar Io Shirai and musician Poppy, who recently appeared on NXT TV and played Shirai’s entrance song, “Scary Mask,” for her entrance. Below are some highlights.

Io Shirai on Poppy’s performance: “I thought the performance went great. Her music is very similar to music in Japan, and I love it. I have never done anything like that before and was honored to be part of such a unique experience.”

Poppy on if she was nervous: “I was only excited. Before I go onstage, the band and I will scream at each other really loudly.”

Poppy on how the collaboration started: “I heard that Io and NXT wanted to use my song and I was thrilled. I was familiar with Io because I watch WWE and was drawn to her. We first met at WWE in person, but we chatted on Twitter.”

Io Shirai on how she became a fan of Poppy: “I already had Poppy’s album and was a fan of her before the performance. I enjoy listening to it in the car, at the gym or on the plane whenever I can.”

Poppy on how she’s a big fan of wrestling: “I have been a fan of pro wrestling ever since I was a small Poppy. I used to own a few of the figures and the WWE-themed ring. I love the intensity of it and the theatrics. I love watching the wrestlers really leave it all out there in the ring. My favorites are Triple H, Io — of course — Ken Shamrock, Ric Flair.”

Io Shirai on the music she likes: “I listen to a lot of Poppy and EDM music. The main connection between heavy music and sports entertainment, to me, is that both evoke a certain type of emotion. Her music is great because it can be fun and scary, which is perfect for NXT and my character.”

Shirai on how she got into wrestling: “My sister started training to be a wrestler and shortly thereafter I fell in love with it. The main difference between wrestling in Japan and the U.S. is that, in Japan, it is more of a sport. In the U.S., it is both sports and entertainment so there are more characters and emotion involved when performing.”

Shirai on what the “Scary Mask” song means to her: “I like to think there is a “good Io” and an “evil Io.” “Scary Mask” is when evil Io comes out.”

Steve Austin On Why He Feels That Ring Work Is Regressing In Today's Wrestling

Steve Austin On Why He Feels That Ring Work Is Regressing In Today's Wrestling

Recently on The Steve Austin Show, 'Global Icon And National Treasure' Steve Austin weighed in on a number of professional wrestling topics. Notably, Austin put over his fellow WWE Hall Of Famer Jerry 'The King' Lawler as being severely underrated and one of the best ever. Austin shared his observation that actual ring work has declined in recent years, as performers are out working with little experience. Additionally, Austin talked about the two biggest mistakes newcomers to professional wrestling can make: going too fast and bumping too much.

According to Austin, Lawler is one of the best professional wrestlers ever and very underrated. The 1996 King Of The Ring said that 'The King' has one of the best working punches in professional wrestling and is one of the best talkers in the history of the professional wrestling business as well.

"To me, Lawler is so underrated and he is one of the best to ever do it," Austin declared. "And he basically worked a brawler style. You didn't see him do [any] chain wrestling. He'd grab a headlock, but I mean he was a brawler. Yeah, and he wasn't the biggest dude in the world. I mean, it wasn't like he was going to the gym. He wasn't a body guy is what I'm saying. But his s--t looked good. He had one of the best working punches in the history of the business, so psychologically sound, and just what a promo! I always hear, 'ehh, so-and-so is the best promo' or 'this guy is a better promo'. And I've never seen Lawler on [anybody's] list. Lawler is one of the best talkers in the history of the business period!"

Austin, who has given his blessing to WWE Superstar Kevin Owens to use the Stunner as a finishing move, shared his view that ring work has regressed as the game has sped up in recent times.

"There's a lot of demand for new people in the business, so sometimes they're not as honed up as they need to be, so you see a lot of holes out there. It's not an indictment on the system or anybody because you still have your veterans out there doing a lot of solid work and people doing athletic things and that's cool." Austin said, "but the work - the work - has regressed as things have sped up, just as far as being able to see through the illusion."

Austin said that inexperienced professional wrestlers see bumping as a way to get noticed, but bumping without a good reason is pointless.

"When you're green, you think bumping is the ticket," Austin explained. "'I've got to bump a lot because that's what's going to elicit a response,' or 'taking bumps is the ticket,' or 'that's the way to do it.' Eh, it's a means to an end and there needs to be a reason that you're taking all those bumps."

In Austin's learned view, the biggest mistakes a green professional wrestler can make are going too fast and bumping too much.

"The biggest mistake that green guys make is doing things too fast," Austin claimed. "Maybe the second one would be taking too many bumps. Nobody goes out there and wants to give the bumps, they want to take them! And you know because you're on the receiving end, you think, 'ah, I'm impressing people by how I'm flying around.' Bumps are great when they're needed."

WWE Release Luke Harper

WWE Release Luke Harper

Luke Harper

WWE have released Luke Harper.

The company posted a short statement on their official website, confirming Harper - real name Jonathan Huber's - release, alongside Sin Cara and Konnor & Viktor of the Ascension.

On 16 April this year, Huber requested his departure from WWE, but it was turned down. Though his contract was originally set to expire in November, it was reported that the promotion had extended it by six months due to the time he spent on the shelf nursing injuries.

Signed by WWE in 2012, the former Brodie Lee was immediately sent to FCW, where he was repackaged as Bray Wyatt's cult follower Luke Harper. The Wyatt Family, as they were known, made their main roster bow in 2013, where they memorably clashed with The Shield, before the group went their separate ways in 2014.

Harper struggled to make any major impact as a singles star, and found himself back alongside Bray and fellow follower Erick Rowan within the year. After the Family's second breakdown, Harper rekindled his partnership with Rowan in 2017, as the crimson-clad, hammer-wielding Bludgeon Brothers. A torn bicep suffered by the latter put the tandem on indefinite hiatus.

After spending time out himself with a wrist injury, Harper returned to action over WrestleMania weekend - for a match at Axxess, of all places. It was shortly after this low-key return that he voiced his frustrations with the company on Twitter, and requested he be moved on.

As a consequence, Huber spent several months in exile, though he returned to action over the summer. At Hell in a Cell, he and Rowan were defeated by Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns.

His last televised match for the outfit came as part of Crown Jewel's battle royal.

Throughout his time in the company, Huber won the Intercontinental Championship, and two SmackDown tag team titles, alongside Bray Wyatt, and as part of a Freebird threesome with Randy Orton and regular partner Rowan.
