Transfer update: Latest on Odegaard, Lingard and Rose

Arsenal transfer target Martin Odegaard can bring more goalscoring threat to the Gunners than Mesut Ozil did, according to Spanish football expert Alvaro Montero. Real Madrid midfielder Odegaard is linked with a loan move to Arsenal. The Norwegian international is being targeted by a host of clubs across Europe after Real made him available for loan.

Odegaard has made just seven appearances in La Liga so far this season and has played just five minutes for Real since December 1.

Arsenal are in the market for an attacking midfielder, with Ozil closing in on his free transfer to Fenerbahce.

Ozil scored 44 goals in his 254 appearances for Arsenal, hitting the back of the net in just under one in every six matches.

Odegaard is yet to score a first-team goal for Real in his 11 appearances for the club.

But he scored seven goals in 36 games on loan at Real Sociedad last term and 11 in 39 for Vitesse the campaign before.

Montero says there are similarities between Odegaard and Ozil but believes the 22-year-old can bring a bit more.

"He's an extremely good player," Montero told Sky Sports News.

"If someone from Arsenal asked me what kind of player he is, I would say he's very similar to Mesut Ozil because he's left-footed, he plays extremely well between lines, between the strikers and the midfielders.

"Maybe he has even more goals than, for example, Mesut Ozil. But maybe he travels a little bit less.

"But he's an amazing player and I think he would be an amazing player for Arsenal, for Mikel Arteta for sure."

Montero says it is a possibility that Odegaard joins Arsenal.

However, he believes that Sociedad are currently leading the way to re-sign him.

"Well [Arsenal is] a possibility," he added.

"As far as I know there have been many clubs in Spain and in Europe [interested].

"We are talking about for example Ajax is interested, many clubs in Germany, in Spain of course, Real Sociedad and Sevilla, and also Arsenal is a possibility.

"As far as I know there is one club above everyone, which is Real Sociedad. It's a huge possibility."

Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Arteta remained tight-lipped about reported interest in Odegaard at his press conference on Thursday.

Arteta said: "Sorry, guys, but I cannot comment on players who play for different clubs."
