Celtic have already held talks with Slovenian club Slovan Bratislava about signing their striker Andraz Sporar and Express Sport understands Parkhead chiefs are set to return to the table in the coming days.
However, the Hoops are expected to face stiff competition during this transfer window for the the 25-year-old, as he is being monitored by several clubs across Europe after scoring 20 goals in 26 appearances this season.
Sporar has not only managed to find the back of the net in his club’s domestic campaign but has also impressed in the Europa League, with five goals in six games in the competition.
And while Celtic are leading the chase for the Slovenia international, Ukrainian outfit Dynamo Kiev and Championship side Bristol City are also interested in the striker.
The Robins want to strengthen their attacking options in the January window and while they are in the hunt to bring Arsenal youngster Eddie Nketiah and Liverpool teenager Rhian Brewster in on loan, they are also prepared to compete with Celtic for Sporar.
Celtic transfer news: Andraz Sporar has scored 20 goals in 26 games for Slovan Bratislava
Lennon has previously admitted the Hoops are interested in the striker and before their 2-1 win away to St. Mirren the Northern Irishman said: “He's one of a number of options we are talking to at the minute.”
Sporar joined Slovan from Basel for £1.1million back in January 2018 and there have been reports that the striker is now valued at around £5m.
However, Slovan Bratislava chief Ivan Kmotrik has insisted that because of Sporar’s recent form, the club will be looking for more than this during talks.
Speaking to Slovakian outlet Sport24, Kmotrik recently said: “There are many people interested in Andraz and Celtic is the most aggressive yet.
“We have a meeting with the representatives of this club right now and we’ll see what happens.
“We will not sell him cheaply and we will not release him for two or three million euros.
“His quality not only corresponds to the Slovak League, but also to the European level. We saw it in the Europa League.
“An offer of 2.5 or 3 million Euros would be disastrous. His market value is much higher.”
Celtic see Sporar as they ideal forward to challenge their main striker Odsonne Edouard, who has 16 goals in 31 appearances for the Hoops this season.
However, Celtic will be mindful that Sporar, who is currently contracted to Slovan until June 2023, declined to leave the club last summer.
“Celtic showed a huge interest in Andraz, but we are not only in touch with them,” Kmotrik said.
“There is also interest from big clubs in France, Spain, Italy, Portugal and Belgium.
“We expect even more clubs will address offers during the next transfer period.
“Andraz’s value is higher than €5.5million. I can’t imagine selling him for lower than €7m to €8m.
“We already received big offers last summer, but he stayed at the club.
“If he had gone then it would have been the biggest transfer in the history of Slovakia.
“Now clubs are addressing even better offers than last summer.”
