Manchester United will make the short trip to Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium today. The Red Devils are currently on their longest unbeaten run in the Premier League this season. But despite the recent success, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men could struggle in today’s clash.

The Red Devils have won only one of their past 11 Premier League away matches.

Manchester City are currently placed third on the league table - 11 points clear of sixth-placed Manchester United.

City, who were beaten by Wolves at home in October, have never lost more than one Premier League home fixture in a season under Pep Guardiola.

However, it's eight matches without a clean sheet for City in all competitions.

That could be good news for Solskjaer’s men with forward Marcus Rashford netting nine goals in his past 10 United appearances.

Sergio Aguero remains sidelined with a thigh injury and Gabriel Jesus is expected to continue up front for City.

Solskjaer hopes that Anthony Martial can overcome a knock to return to the squad, with Nemanja Matic and Marcos Rojo also in contention.

Ahead of the clash, Solskjaer said: "It took many years before I played a Manchester derby myself.

“Of course, Man City are a better team now than when I was playing.

"Manchester derbies are always special games but you can't say it matters more [than Tottenham]. For the fans, of course, yes.

"Confidence is a strange thing in football; you can get performances and results like Wednesday night and it boosts it so much.

“And I know our boys will be up for it.

Guardiola said: "It's Man United; I respect what they've done for English football, European, and world football.

“United have huge history and their quality is always there but we must try to beat them.

"We play against a good team, try to follow the performances we've put in and try to win the game. You know my opinion on the title race."

Man Utd chief Ed Woodward handed boost as Barcelona boss hints at Arturo Vidal transfer

Man Utd chief Ed Woodward handed boost as Barcelona boss hints at Arturo Vidal transfer

Manchester United have seen their chances of signing Arturo Vidal boosted by Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde, who admits that he is open to allowing the Chile international leave the club in January.

Vidal joined the club from Bayern Munich in 2018 for a deal estimated to be just over £15million, but has seen his first-team opportunities limited this term.

The 32-year-old has made only three starts in the league having slipped behind Frenkie de Jong, Sergio Busquets and Arthur Melo in the pecking order.

United on the other hand could enter the transfer market as they attempt to add some steel to their midfield, with Paul Pogba’s future still uncertain.

Valverde has now opened up on Vidal’s future after claims that United have spoken to Vidal's agent Fernando Felicevich emerged, and he has been honest over the player’s stance.

Valverde said: "Vidal is our player. We are happy with him. There are so many rumours. We will see tomorrow if he plays or not.

"And when the January transfer window arrives, we will see what happens.

"There's a lot of things going on in January but it's true that we have a lot of midfielders.

"Some have played more than others but all of them are needed."

United hero Gary Neville recently urged his former club to be active in the winter window, and said that signing two players should be the minimum.

He told talkSPORT earlier this month: “I fear for Ole. He needs to spend the owners’ money in January.

“He’s doing a pure job, he’s getting rid of a lot of the players that needed to leave.

“He’s clearing out the mess and bringing in players that the fans like, the players who actually want to play for the club.

“But they’re well short in terms of quality. He doesn’t want to be clearing the decks for someone else to benefit from. He needs to make sure he benefits.

“He needs to spend money and be ruthless with the board. He needs to spend their money.

“He can’t panic but he needs to sign two or three experienced players. “The young players are struggling without guidance, they need support.

“He needs a couple of midfield players and a striker, that’s essential.”

What Duncan Ferguson told Everton players in the dressing room to inspire win over Chelsea

Duncan Ferguson told the Everton players to play their own game and enjoy it - before they went out and beat Chelsea. Ferguson took charge of Everton today after the sacking of Marco Silva. And he helped the pick up their first win at home since the middle of October.

And Theo Walcott has lifted the lid on Ferguson’s message to the players before the match.

"Duncan has come in and the club is his heart,” Walcott said on BT Sport.

“That was the Everton way, we play for each other and Dominic was immense. We wanted intensity and pressure and to get in behind them.

“We put them under pressure and made them make mistakes. Duncan said go out and play your game and enjoy it.

“As much as it sounds a cliche, that is what we did.”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored twice after Richardson’s opener and Matteo Kovacic’s strike for Chelsea.

And the 22-year-old said: "It was a massive game for us and I have a very close relationship with Duncan.

“He has stuck by me for the three years I have known him. The most important thing was to go out and give 100%."

Everton are expected to name a new manager in the coming days and Niko Kovac, formerly of Bayern Munich, was in the stands alongside Farhad Moshiri at Goodison Park.

However they have also been linked with David Moyes, Eddie Howe, Mikel Arteta and Vitor Pereira.

Negotiations with Pereira are believed to have started over the past few days but the sight of Kovac at Goodison suggests things aren’t as clear cut as they seem.

Although Goal claim to have spoken to Kovac and he has ruled himself out of the running and says he plans to attend several games in England over the next few weeks as he takes a break from managing.

Silva was sacked after the 5-2 Merseyside derby defeat that saw them drop into the bottom three.

But today’s win shoots them up to 14th, albeit before the 3pm kick offs, and is a sign of how tight things are in the bottom half of the table.

Frank Lampard wants Chelsea showdown talks to use Eden Hazard transfer money in January

Frank Lampard wants Chelsea showdown talks to use Eden Hazard transfer money in January

Frank Lampard hopes to have the money from Eden Hazard’s move to Real Madrid in the summer ready for him to go and sign new recruits for Chelsea in the January transfer window after having their ban overturned. Lampard took the role of Chelsea boss in the summer with the knowledge he would not be able to sign any new players after the club were handed a two-window transfer ban by FIFA in relation to rules broken over the club signing 29 foreign players aged under 18.

That meant no replacement could come in for Hazard, who got his dream move to La Liga giants Real after Chelsea agreed a fee worth £90million rising to £130m with add-ons.

But the Blues have now had  two-window ban halved after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) had found Chelsea were in violation “for a significantly smaller number of players (about one third of the violations found by FIFA)”.

It now means the club are in a position to enter the transfer market in January, posing a new challenge for Lampard at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard made clear upon his appointment that he would give youth the chance of breaking into the first-team set up at Chelsea.

And while the transfer ban somewhat forced his hand, the club have excelled with talents such as Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori all breaking through.

Some former players have suggested Lampard should forego the opportunity to sign new recruits in the New Year, opting to stick with the squad at his disposal.

However, Lampard has hinted he will be looking to do business in January and will sit down with Chelsea officials to get the money they made from summer transfers available to him in the market.

“Part of my job here is to push for the best here and when when you’re going into the market, with the level of the player we have here, you only bring in someone if they’re better than what you’ve got,” he told BT Sport.

“Sometimes you’ve got to pay for that seriously and we did bring in some money this summer so those conversations will be had.”

As well as the £90m made from Hazard’s transfer to Real, the club are also set to receive £50m when Alvaro Morata’s move to Atletico Madrid is made permanent at the end of the season.

Historically, Chelsea have never shied away from spending big in January having splashed the cash on players such as Fernando Torres and Nemanja Matic in the past.

And Lampard has suggested there are already areas in his current Chelsea squad which he wants to strengthen in the January market.

“There was something nice about the summer not buying [laughs],” he said.

“The beauty of it was, ‘ok, this is what we’ve got’.

“We know what it is and worked hard through the summer with the players and I suppose the young players were the injection.

“They were the freshness to the group and they’ve shown that themselves.

“But now of course, when you look at the squad you can analyse it and see where we might be able to improve because the nature of big clubs is that if you can improve from the outside then you have to look at it.”

He added: “We’re ready. We have scouting departments who are constantly looking at players around the world.

“It’s been nice that I’ve been able to focus completely on what we’ve got, but we do what players are out there.”
