Alan Shearer tore into Arsenal who were “so bad defensively” in their 2-2 draw with Southampton on Saturday, and picked out four players to blame.

The Gunners needed a 96th minute equaliser from Alexandre Lacazette to rescue a point against the Saints as they took their winless run to six games, in a game they were fortunate to come away with a point from.

Southampton had 21 shots during the contest in north London and the home side were booed off by their own fans at full time.

“Where do we start? They were sloppy, so bad defensively. [Kieran] Tierney set the tone after a couple of minutes, caught on the ball, poor touches,” Shearer said on Match of the Day.

“[Lucas] Torreira then got caught on the ball, Arsenal got away with it. Six players and the manager are moaning to the referee when Southampton score, they were too clever for them.

“David Luiz… by the time the ball is in the net he’s not even in the box, it’s too late, he’s switching off.

“These mistakes are happening every single week trying to play out of the back but they’re not good enough to play out from the back, they keep giving chances away.

“I might get criticised for talking about fouling but what does [N’golo] Kante, Fabinho and Fernandinho do? They foul and they stop attacks.

“It’s a lack of experience from [Matteo Guendouzi] because look at the space Southampton have got to run into.”

SAITAMA (Japan): Salem Al-Dawsari and Bafetimbi Gomis were the heroes as Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal beat Urawa Red Diamonds 2-0 on Sunday and 3-0 on aggregate to claim a record-equalling third Asian club title in the AFC Champions League .

Al-Dawsari scored with 16 minutes left and top-scorer Gomis grabbed his 11th of the competition in injury time as the Saudi giants ended a 19-year wait for their third continental trophy, joining South Korea's Pohang Steelers as the only three-time Asian champions.

chairman Sir Chips Keswick is reportedly contemplating tendering his resignation because he does not have an active role in Unai Emery’s reign at the club.

The Spaniard has been facing calls to leave the Emirates for the last few weeks due to a string of poor results.

Those demands intensified on Saturday afternoon following the Gunners’ 2-2 draw with Southampton, a result which saw the club’s winless run extend to six matches.

Arsenal fans didn’t shy away from voicing their discontent after the final whistle, vehemently booing the team and chanting for Emery to be relieved of his duties.

Arsenal are toiling in seventh place in the Premier League table and are eight points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea

The jeering of Emery was said to be so loud that it could be heard in the boardroom by Keswick and other club chiefs.

And according to The Athletic, Keswick currently feels ‘compelled’ to quit the club because he cannot be involved in deciding Emery’s future.

They claim Keswick - who succeeded Peter Hill-Wood in 2013 - feels as if he’s been left out of the decision-making process over the Spaniard’s tenure and doesn’t want to be seen as furthering fan anger.

It’s understood, Arsenal technical director Edu and head of football Raul Sanllehi have no intention of sacking Emery, much to the disappointment of those booing the former Paris Saint-Germain boss on Saturday.

Saturday's draw with relegation battlers Southampton has left Arsenal in seventh place in the Premier League table and eight points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea.

Emery is well aware he’s under mounting pressure and has vowed to do everything in his power to turn results around.

"I know that we need to connect with our supporters," he said. "The club are supporting me every day and also I have a responsibility. I know I can do better, I can take more performances with the players and I'm going to try to do that. It's difficult but we need to move on in the next days."

Arsenal will be back in action on Thursday night, welcoming Eintracht Frankfurt to the Emirates for their fifth Europa League group game of the season.

John McGinn staying put

Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has ruled out a January move away from the club for Manchester United target John McGinn.

McGinn has been one of Villa’s most impressive players this season and was a big part of their promotion to the Premier League last season.

United were thought to be lining up a £50million bid for the Scottish international in the summer, but Villa wouldn’t budge.

"There's been a lot of speculation about a lot of our players,” Smith said. "But we've two owners who want to build a football club, challenging in the top half of the table, and top six in a few years' time.”

The aura still exists

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder insists the aura associated with Manchester United remains despite their recent decline.

The Reds' trophy-laden era under Sir Alex Ferguson has become a distant memory since his departure in 2013 and, by their own high standards, they are having a hard time.

Solskjaer's side make the trip cross the Pennines on Sunday to face Sheffield United with Blades boss Wilder tipping them to eventually rediscover their former glories.

"Manchester United are one of the most iconic teams in the world, and there will always be an aura surrounding them," said Wilder. "No matter how their fortunes on the pitch may fluctuate, it's still one of football's true powerhouses that we are talking about whenever we mention their name.

"They are an incredible football club who are just going through a spell right now where they are not having it all their own way. That happens in football. But fortunes can fluctuate very quickly in this game and they will find their way back to the top, that's for certain."

Erling Braut Haaland latest

Manchester United have received worrying news in their pursuit of £85m-rated Red Bull Salzburg star Erling Braut Haaland.

The Red Devils are extremely interested in the talented Norwegian international, who has registered an incredible 26 goals and six assists in 18 appearances this season.

Old Trafford boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made the 19-year-old a top priority in the January transfer window - but his signature could be snared by RB Leipzig.

The Mirror claim the Bundesliga side have first refusal because of a contractual tie-up between the two branded clubs that would enable RB Leipzig to sign him for a bargain £25million - which is bad news for Ed Woodward and co.

Nicolo Zaniolo offer

Manchester United are ready to splash the cash to sign Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo.

That’s according to Italian newspaper Il Messaggero, who claim United will battle with Paris Saint-Germain for his signature in January.

Zaniolo, 20, has scored five goals in 16 appearances this season and recently opened his account for the Italian international side - netting twice against Armenia.

It’s reported that Ed Woodward and co. are prepared to test Roma’s resolve with a £52million bid.

Jadon Sancho options

Manchester United, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona are the four possible transfer destinations for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.

The 19-year-old has been linked with a move back to the Premier League after leaving Manchester City’s in the summer of 2017, and he now feels more determined to leave Germany than ever.

The Athletic have reported that Sancho feels ‘humiliated and scapegoated’ by the actions of chiefs at his current club, pushing him to force a move at the end of the season.

The report goes on to claim that chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke needed assurance from Sancho’s representatives in the summer that the player would not try and force a move away in January, but his stance could now have changed with recent developments.
