Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers says the club will not sell their stars in January.

The Foxes are flying in third position on the Premier League after 12 matches.

This has lead to the likes of James Maddison and Caglar Soyuncu being linked with other clubs, but Rodgers is adamant they are going nowhere.

"We want to grow, and there's a lot of development left in this squad," Rodgers told the Telegraph.

"We've absolutely no plans to lose anyone in January.

"Our job is to keep what we have and if there's an opportunity to improve the squad we will look to do that. If not, we will carry on with the squad we have, which is very strong."

Mourinho reveals text from Woodward after Spurs appointment

Mourinho reveals text from Woodward after Spurs appointment

Jose Mourinho has revealed that his former bosses, including Manchester United chief executive Ed Woodward, sent him text messages after he landed the Tottenham job.

The Portuguese coach was appointed Spurs boss on Wednesday morning after Mauricio Pochettino had been sacked on the Tuesday night.

And Mourinho said it was nice to receive congratulations messages from a number of people at Man Utd, where he was sacked last December after a number of poor displays.

“I received messages from everybody, everywhere (from my former clubs),” Mourinho told Sky Sports News.

“Maybe I get the opportunity to apologise for not answering 500 of them that I couldn’t answer. I have 700 but only had time to answer 200.

“But it was curious to see, from my last club, so many people showing me that respect, empathy and feeling. It was nice.

“All of them were special. The first one was from (United managing director) Richard Arnold. The third, fourth or fifth was Ed Woodward. And they were my bosses.”

On whether he will get on with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, Mourinho added: “Yes, I think we will get on well.

“He explained to me the vision for the club and I embraced that. It was one of the most important reasons I accepted. So when I did that, it’s a very good start.”

Gossip: Mourinho wants Zlatan at Spurs; Poch’s next job

Gossip: Mourinho wants Zlatan at Spurs; Poch’s next job

JOSE WANTS IBRA AT SPURS
Day three of the Jose Mourinho era at Tottenham and we’re now at the stage where Spurs are being linked with anyone and everyone who has played for the manager before.

On the second day, the talk was of a move for Nemanja Matic. He’s out of favour at Man Utd and very much up for grabs in January, with Atletico Madrid and AC Milan also sniffing. Today, though, offers Spurs fans a rather more exciting name from Mourinho’s past.

The Telegraph reckons the new head coach is trying to hijack AC Milan’s move for Zlatan Ibrahimovic in time to sign the Swedish veteran next month. Ibra is available at the end of his contract at LA Galaxy, where he moved after playing for Mourinho at Man Utd. Spurs haven’t a like-for-like replacement for Harry Kane and 38-year-old Zlatan might fancy bringing down the curtain on his ridiculous career with Jose at White Hart Lane.

POCH’S EYED BY EUROPE’S BIGGEST CLUBS
What of Mourinho’s predecessor? It looks like Mauricio Pochettino will be just fine…

The sacked Spurs boss is said to be a primary candidate for the Bayern Munich hot seat, which is currently being kept warm by Hansi Flick. That is the good word according to Sky Sports, which also claims Real Madrid are keeping an eye on Pochettino with a view to next summer.

The Sun also names Bayern Munich as Pochettino’s possible next employer, as well as Barcelona. Pochettino is apparently retreating to his house in Spain after being axed by Spurs, but it would mean a U-turn if he was to replace Ernesto Valverde at the Nou Camp.

In 2017, Pochettino said:  “I am an Espanyol supporter. I don’t think I need to speak too much. It’s like if one day Daniel Levy sacked me – in a few years it would be impossible for me to manage Arsenal.”

And we all know that people in football never go back on their word.

AND THE REST
Leicester have opened contract talks with James Maddison… Lucas Torreira won’t rule out an Arsenal exit… Villa, West Ham and Sheffield United are keen on Nicolas Gaitan, whose contract at Chicago Fire expires next month.

Mourinho explains how Spurs can use Liverpool example

Mourinho explains how Spurs can use Liverpool example

Jose Mourinho is looking to Liverpool to provide his Tottenham players with an example of how you can lose and come back stronger.

Spurs lost in the Champions League final last season against Jurgen Klopp’s men and have failed to recover, making a terrible start to the Premier League season.

Liverpool on the other hand, lost the Champions League final to Real Madrid in 2018 before winning it in 2019 and pushing Manchester City close in the Premier League title race.

The Reds are now eight points clear at the top of the Premier League and Mourinho thinks they are a great example of how to bounce back from losing.

Mourinho told reporters: “I don’t know [how it feels] because I never lost a Champions League Final. But I can imagine it’s not easy. You reach one of the biggest moments that you can achieve in football.

“You are one step away from it, you cannot do it. I can imagine that is not easy but you have the example of Liverpool.

“One year they lost the Premier League by one point and they lost the Champions League by one goal and the next season, which is the current season, they are very strong in the Premier League.

“Last season they went very very strong and they won it.”
