Sacking Mauricio Pochettino could come back to haunt Tottenham, according to former Spurs midfielder Jermaine Jenas.

The Argentine’s five-and-a-half year spell at the club came to an end earlier this week, with Daniel Levy opting to twist and appoint Jose Mourinho.

Now one of the finest managers in world football is available after plenty of interest in the past few years and Jenas believes Pochettino will have no problem whatsoever finding a new job.

He wrote in his column for Express Sport: “Poch will have six month or a year out. He will get a top job.

Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juve, Bayern Munich. It will be a monster job.

“And he will probably come back and break Spurs' hearts.”

Speaking in his first press conference as Tottenham boss, Mourinho paid tribute to Pochettino and what he’s left behind at the club for the Portuguese to inherit.

“I’ve been smiling for two days,” The Special One said.

“First of all I do it with a bit of sadness, I have to speak about Mauricio.

“I have to congratulate him on the incredible job he did. I share with you what we shared inside.

“This club will always be his home, this training ground his training ground. He is always welcome here.”

Like Jenas, Mourinho also claimed Pochettino will not have to sweat over landing another job, one should fall on his lap.

“Tomorrow is another day,” Mourinho added.

“He will find happiness soon. He will give everything like he did at this club.

“He will leave with sadness with the feeling that he did great work. It is what everyone at the club felt.”

Mourinho takes charge of his first game as Tottenham boss on Saturday lunchtime at West Ham.

Christian Pulisic is a major injury doubt when Chelsea return to Premier League action against Manchester City this weekend.

The American was sidelined throughout the international break after picking up a hip problem in the 2-0 win over Crystal Palace and faces a race to prove his fitness.

The news is a huge blow to manager Frank Lampard following the 21-year-old’s hot streak of form, with Pulisic having scored a hat-trick against Burnley before goes against Watford and Palace.

Pulisic is not the only Chelsea ace struggling with injury as Antonio Rudiger is still sidelined following an operation.

Ross Barkley is also a doubt after failing to recover from injury in time to feature for England against Montenegro and Kosovo over the past week.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Marco van Ginkel are long-term absentees but Jorginho is available once again following suspension.

Kepa Arrizabalaga will continue in goal but Reece James could drop out if Lampard recalls club captain Cesar Azpilicueta at right-back.

Kurt Zouma and Fikayo Tomori are still ahead of Andreas Christensen in the pecking order but it remains to be seen whether Emerson Palmieri or Marcos Alonso are preferred at left-back.

N’Golo Kante returned from injury before the international break and should continue alongside a resurgent Mato Kovacic, meaning Mason Mount will have to move into a more advanced role in order to make room for Jorginho.

The England youngster could take Pulisic’s spot on the left flank while Willian retains his role on the opposite wing, with both players supporting lone frontman Tammy Abraham.

That means Pedro and Callum Hudson-Odoi will have to be content with a spot on the bench alongside Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi now that Lampard has settled on his preferred starting XI.

As for City, the defending Premier League champions are without the suspended Bernardo Silva while Ederson is doubtful and Leroy Sane, Aymeric Laporte and Oleksandr Zinchenko are all on the treatment table.

Granit Xhaka would be “glad to return” to the Arsenal fold after becoming an outcast at the club this month.

Xhaka was stripped of the club captaincy following his outburst towards the fans who cheered his substitution against Crystal Palace in October.

The midfielder cupped his ears at booing supporters, flailed his arms and told them to “f*** off” as he exited the pitch straight down the tunnel.

Emery took away his privileges as skipper in the following days and has not played him since with a January transfer to AC Milan or Newcastle looking likely.

Xhaka told Emery last time out that he was not yet in the right frame of mind to play but has now informed Swiss broadcaster SRF he is open to returning - which is against the wish of most Gooners.

“I have a clear idea as to how things should proceed, and Arsenal know this as well,” Xhaka said.

“Although, I still have a contract with them.

“I will be glad to return to the club - so we can finally sort matters out.

“There will surely be a solution - as I can't accept what has happened with me.”

Xhaka was able to regain some match fitness over the international break, turning out for Switzerland in two 90-minute appearances.

He seemed to aim a dig at Arsenal fans during the lay-off, though, posting a photo on Instagram with the caption: “Happiness is when you are satisfied with yourself and do not need the confirmation of others.”

The Gunners welcome Southampton to the Emirates Stadium this weekend and Emery suggested Xhaka could return.

“He’s coming back better,” the Spaniard said in his Friday press conference.

“His mindset is better and this morning I have a very good conversation with him.

“My objective is for him to come back helping us and convincing everyone that he is going to be better in the short or long future with us.

“He’s feeling better and his team is Arsenal now. He wants to come back with the confidence of the supporters.

“We are going to decide tomorrow (if he plays) but I want to give him confidence and comfort.”

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho will have “three or four” new signings lined up already ahead of the January transfer window, claims former Spurs manager Harry Redknapp.

Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham on Wednesday, signing a three-and-a-half-year contract with the north London side.

Several high-profile players, such as Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen, are out of contract at the end of the season.

Redknapp says Mourinho will want to move on players who do not want to play for Spurs in January and replace them with signings he already has in mind.

“Those who don’t want to be there, he’ll bomb them out in January, if you don’t want to play,” Redknapp said on The Debate.

“He’ll have three or four players lined up already. He knows all the right people, he’ll have players lined up to come in.

“And those that can’t make their mind up if they want to play for Tottenham, he’ll go ‘No sorry, I only want players that want to be here, off you go’.”

Mourinho held his first press conference as Tottenham manager on Thursday.

And he claimed he was happy with the squad he has been given.

“The best gift are the players who are here,” Mourinho said.

“I don’t need new players. I just need to get to know these ones better. I know them well but you never know them well enough until you meet them.”

Redknapp, meanwhile, reckons midfielder Dele Alli is likely to benefit from Jose Mourinho’s arrival.

“He will try and get into people’s heads, try and convince them what good players they are,” Redknapp added.

“Get into Dele Alli, tell him ‘listen son, you’re a fantastic player, we need to get you back playing, concentrate on your football, you’re one of the best players in Europe’.

“Get him playing, make him believe in himself again and do the same with four or five others.”
