Real Madrid keeper Courtois credits Belgium support for form revival
Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois credits the support of his Belgium teammates for his form revival.
Courtois recognised that it helped him when he met up with his Belgium teammates over the last international break in October, following plenty of criticism back in the Spanish capital after his performance in the 2-2 draw against Champions League opponents Club Brugge.
"Yes, it is true that that after a difficult game, where I got sick - then you know about the bowel troubles that there was - I came here [to meet up with the Belgium squad]," Courtois said.
"[I came to a place] where you know the people; the goalkeeper coach [Erwin Lemmens] knows me almost better than my father, so to speak [about a few things helped], and we recovered some feelings that equally I had lost a little.
"In the end, I never lost confidence; I never felt bad. Before the Brugge game, when I started to get criticised, we had won 1-0 in Seville and drew 0-0 at Atletico [Madrid], which are two difficult grounds."
