Casino Royale Tops the list of gambling movies

According to state of the art research, the best overall gambling movie is the much loved Casino Royale (2006), a modern classic instalment in the James Bond series. Daniel Craig’s premier outing as Bond, this film provided the franchise a leg-up after years of mediocrity.

A study by New Casino Sites considered the ranking of the best gambling movies of all time. Clearly, the research shows that Casino Royale is the best gambling movie by a distance! With that said, plenty of others are close behind!

In this article, we will consider what makes Casino Royale top of the best gambling movie list. We will also look at other great gambling movies that did well in the study.

So, without further ado, let’s consider the movie Casino Royale and see what it is that ensures this movie is the finest gambling movie of them all.

What makes Casino Royale the best gambling movie?

So what is it that makes Casino Royale top of the list of gambling movies? The truth is that there are a variety of reasons that contribute to the 2006 movie topping the table.

Pierce Brosnan is a quality actor, a star of many top movies in the 90s and early 00s. Yet the reality is that, in Casino Royale (2006), Daniel Craig added a new level of acting to the role of Bond. With a greater sense of depth and profundity to the character, Craig was able to revolutionise the way in which people saw Bond. Gone were the days of a one-dimensional action hero. This was a dark, wounded man with doubts about his role in the world.

Casino Royale also enjoys a supreme Bond villain in the form of Le Chiffre. Played with aplomb by Mads Mikkelsen, he has to go down as one of the series’ more chilling baddies. As an international arms dealer, Le Chiffre will do whatever it takes to keep his business booming.

Surely the main reason that Casino Royale is viewed as the very best gambling movie on the list is its epic poker scene. Taking place at the casino in the title, a secret Montenegrin high-stakes venue, 007 battles it out around the table with a host of villainous characters. Though he eventually scoops up over $100m, he gets a lot more than he bargains for in the long run.

A look at other gambling movies

Whilst Casino Royale was quite rightly the table topper in terms of this chunk of research, many other top movies came out smelling of roses too. From the Hollywood smash remake of Ocean’s Eleven (2001) to the tension of Scorsese’s Casino (1995), there were some amazing movies in this list of the 21 best gambling movies.

The Hangover (2009) and Molly’s Game (2017) did fairly well, yet many would have predicted these two smash hits to have placed closer to the top.

One thing is for sure, people will continue to love gambling movies and so Hollywood will continue to make them. Who knows what the future may bring!
