The Grand Tour season 4: James May details harrowing story which saw him dodge death

The Grand Tour season 4: James May details harrowing story which saw him dodge death

The Grand Tour fans are ecstatic about the show’s return this week with their special: Seamen. And while the trailers and snippets released by Amazon Prime Video have shown the three presenters Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond enjoying themselves, it wasn’t always smiles.

James arrived on ITV’s Good Morning Britain today to discuss his new show.

During the discussion with Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid, James spoke about his time filming, including a flight which went wrong.

This subject came about as Piers and Susanna asked James about the closest he had ever come to being killed during his antics.

Piers asked: “Was at the helm of a plane? What happened?”

James responded: “I crashed it, Piers. It’s as simple as that.”

Laughing at his flippant response, Piers continued: “Where? What was it? Where did you crash it?”

To which James continued: “On the runway.

“What is a nice way of putting it? I was being… overconfident in strong crosswinds in a light aircraft.

“And I thought: ‘I can sort this out and get it back,’ but I was wrong.

“So it [the plane] ended up upside down and I had to…”

As James regaled the presenters with his story, Susanna unbelievably guffawed: “Upside down!?”

Piers followed suit in asking: “Seriously? And did you think when you were coming down: This could be it?”

“No,” James went on. “As I was coming down I thought: ‘I’ll get away with this’.”

“There’s a dangerous point in doing things like flying airplanes where your ability climbs like that,” he added as he pointed to the sky.

“But your self confidence and self belief does that - and at the point where the gap is biggest which is pretty much where i was that's when you [make mistakes].”

On being asked what was running through his head during this event, he went on: “Words that I can’t really say on your very respectable program.

'Star Trek' actor William Shatner files for divorce from wife of 18 years: report

'Star Trek' actor William Shatner files for divorce from wife of 18 years: report

William Shatner has reportedly filed for divorce from his wife of 18 years, Elizabeth.

According to TMZ, the “Star Trek” actor, 88, filed paperwork against his wife, 61, calling for an end to their marriage. The outlet said that a separation will likely be a pretty easy process for them, as they entered into their marriage in 2001 with a prenup.

Representatives for Shatner did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment.

The gossip site reported that the duo is still negotiating financial terms, but that spousal support won’t be an issue given the prenup, and child support won’t be an issue given their lack of children.

As a result, it seems that the couple’s marriage could be over officially in a relatively short amount of time. This will mark the end of the “T.J. Hooker” actor’s fourth marriage. He was previously hitched to Nerine Kidd, Marcy Lafferty and Gloria Rand. He shares two daughters, Lisabeth Shatner, 58, and Leslie Carol, 61, with Rand.

The actor shot to fame in the 1960s for his role as Captain James T. Kirk in the original series run of "Star Trek" and went on to have a lucrative film and TV career thereafter.

Shatner's third marriage, to Kidd, ended in tragedy in 1999 when she died of accidental drowning in their swimming pool. Although the actor had filed for divorce after two years of marriage shortly before the incident, he explained in his 2018 book "Live Long and…What I Learned Along the Way" that he was nonetheless grief-stricken by the loss.

"After my third wife, Nerine, drowned in our swimming pool, I was twisted in grief. I was completely lost. Nerine was an alcoholic and I had failed to save her," Shatner wrote in the book.

"My grief was overwhelming. This was the type of pain that makes you think either I’m simply going to die or I’m going to kill myself," he added elsewhere in the book.

Shatner went on to marry Elizabeth, whose maiden name is Martin, two years later, when he was 69 and she was 42. They tied the knot in February 2001 in Indiana with a low-key courthouse ceremony.

Brad Pitt says he turned to marijuana, hiding from public amid immense fame in 1990s

Brad Pitt admitted that the pressures of his immense fame in the 1990s caused him to turn to marijuana and seclusion in order to cope.

In an in-depth interview with The New York Times Magazine, Pitt, who rose to fame with hit films such as “Interview with the Vampire,” “Seven” and “Fight Club” throughout the decade, said that he spent a good portion of the '90s sequestered in private because he didn’t know how to react to the public interest in his every move and decision.

In the interview, the star opened up about his relationship with fame today and how he manages to live his life without going back into hiding. In short, he simply stopped reading the stories that are being written about him.

“Not just reviews. I mean any magazine in the doctor's office," he said. "Because some of it would bounce around like a rat in the skull. It would stay there, and it would inform some of my decisions and choices in work, in life, and I didn’t find any of it helpful."
